Professor Voluspa Jarpa was honored with the 2016 Award for Excellence in Artistic Creation. This recognition is given to her for her contribution to the development of the arts in Chile and its impact on society.
Jarpa, part of the generation of Chilean artists from the ’90s, along with Pablo Langlois and Nury González, has worked in painting, installations, and sculpture. Her work is characterized by addressing urban and reflective themes. She has incorporated digital technology as a tool for representation in her work.
She has participated in several solo and group exhibitions throughout her career, including the VI Havana Biennial (1997), the III Mercosur Biennial in Porto Alegre (2001), “Sin Miedo Ni Esperanza” at the Museo Regional de Ancud (2004), “Residencia en el Valle” at the Museo de Artes Visuales de Santiago (2005), exhibitions like “Pintura Mural / El Sitio de Rancagua,” “Arte Joven en Chile 1986 – 1996,” and “Chile Austria” at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Chile (1994, 1997, and 2000, respectively), “París-Santiago, El Genio de la Bastilla” at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Santiago (1999), Art Basel Miami (2013), and the São Paulo Biennial (2015), among other exhibitions in Chile, Latin America, Canada, the United States, and Europe.
