Cristián Salineros – Artistic Creation Award 2021


In this tenth edition of the Excellence in Artistic Creation Award, the winner was Professor Cristián Salineros from the School of Art. The national sculptor has showcased his work in the Americas, Europe, and Asia through his participation in contemporary art fairs, as well as in group and solo exhibitions. Furthermore, several of his large-format works are part of our collective consciousness and are situated in public spaces.

Professor Cristián Salineros holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Arcis. In 2003, he received the Academic Interchange Scholarship from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) for postgraduate studies at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, Germany. There, he developed projects under the guidance of professors Daniel Buren, Magdalena Jetelovà, and Rita McBride, earning the equivalent of a Master’s in Visual Arts and Public Space.

He has executed projects and exhibited his work individually and in collective exhibitions, both in Chile and abroad. His solo exhibitions include Kunstverein in Göttingen, Germany; Joachim Gallery in Berlin, Germany; Galeria 713 Arte Contemporáneo in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Riffe Gallery in Ohio, USA; the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia; Museo DKM in Duisburg, Germany; Galería Patricia Ready in Chile; El Museo Gallery in Bogotá, Colombia; and Fundación NC-Arte in Bogotá, Colombia, among others. He has also participated in significant contemporary art fairs, such as Ch.Aco (Chile), ArtLima (Peru), ArtBo (Colombia), Arco (Spain), Maco (Mexico City, Mexico), ArtMiami (USA), SP Arte (Brazil), and ArteBa (Argentina).

Winner of the Altazor Prize in 2003, he has received recognition from various Chilean and German institutions, including the Alcatel Prize, the Foundation Telefónica Sculpture Competition Prize, and the second prize in the Deutsche Bank Förderpreis für Skulptur in Germany. On three occasions, he has been awarded the first prize by the Ministry of Public Works for the development of public and permanent installation works.

Cristián Salineros has delivered presentations on contemporary art and art education both nationally and internationally. He has also participated in numerous artist residencies, with notable invitations from the Mosam Art Museum in South Korea and the Museum of Modern Art in Chiloé, Chile, among others.

Since 2000, he has held various academic positions at the university level and has served as an undergraduate thesis director. He has acted as a judge and project evaluator in multiple competitive funding competitions both in Chile and abroad.

Starting in 2012, he has been the General Coordinator of the International Program of Guest Artists at the School of Art of the Catholic University of Chile. This program has substantially contributed to the development of both students and faculty at the School of Art UC, making a highly relevant impact on the contemporary art scene in Chile.
